Jillian Hetherman is a composer-lyricist, librettist, theatre director, choreographer, and producer based in Boston, Massachusetts, born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Jillian graduated from Emerson College in December, earning her BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, Writing Musical Theatre and Film with a minor in History.
Jillian specializes in satire and musical comedy. Her work centers on the state of women in the world and American society as seen in her musicals “The Ball Game,” “Majority Rules,” and “Sweeps” (upcoming), as well as her senior thesis, “Drama Queens: An Examination of Female Characters: the Women Who Create Them, and the Men Who Sedate Them in the American Musical Theatre.“
Jillian believes in cultivating joy, fun, and excitement in the room, and it translates onstage. Her unorthodox method of casting former athletes in her musicals (what she refers to as the Bench to Broadway pipeline) has proved successful and fulfilling for all parties involved—welcoming a newcomer into theater is one of her favorite parts of the creative process.
Originally, Jillian wanted to be a Big Broadway Star, and decided to take a page out of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s book: write your own show and cast yourself in the lead! While her favorite place in the world is still the rehearsal room, she soon realized it is behind the table, rather than on the studio floor. She’ll still soak up the limelight at karaoke, though—don’t get it twisted.
When she’s not working on an upcoming project, Jillian can be found rattling off theater facts over dollar oysters or taking a casual 10-mile walk around the city.
